What's your pace?

Today was opening day of the Lynn Woods Running 2016 summer season.  Of course I went, because you can't miss opening day! This year I decided to stick with the long runs, so our first race was 5.1, half on the regular trail and half on the side trails.  It was great until about 2.5, then it got real bad, then it got great again.  It was very warm for a woods run and yet, it's not the warmest it's going to be this summer, so I guess it's time to get used to that again.  You know it's hot when you go through 24 oz of water on a 5 mile run though.  That hasn't happened in ages. I made it through in 46ish minutes.  Not bad for a woods run.  Full disclosure, I walked the Goat Path today.  There was no way I was making it up that.  And another hill that was roughly the size of Mt. Everest.  Still a good opening run.  It helps that I was doing 3 - 5 miles in the woods at least once a week during track season.  I don't have any official results, but I'm willing to bet that I came in top 50 in the long run.  The 31st finisher was in at a 39 something pace, and I know there weren't that many more people in front of me.
Anyways, the point of this isn't the actual woods run, but the pace at which it was taken.  I'm not sure if this is supposed to be how it works, but my 80 degree woods run pace for the first three miles was the same as my regular day road running pace of roughly 8:30.  Is that normal?  Isn't a trail pace supposed to be slower due to hills and terrain? Or are they supposed to be around the same general time?  Basically what I'm wondering is, should I be running faster on the road than I am on the trails? If so, I need to give myself a real push I guess.
Well, that's about it for now.  No woods run pictures yet, but I have a ton of other randoms that you can enjoy.  Non-running related, but still lovely to look at, I assume.

Hair looked good, deserved a selfie!
