What's your pace?

Today was opening day of the Lynn Woods Running 2016 summer season.  Of course I went, because you can't miss opening day! This year I decided to stick with the long runs, so our first race was 5.1, half on the regular trail and half on the side trails.  It was great until about 2.5, then it got real bad, then it got great again.  It was very warm for a woods run and yet, it's not the warmest it's going to be this summer, so I guess it's time to get used to that again.  You know it's hot when you go through 24 oz of water on a 5 mile run though.  That hasn't happened in ages. I made it through in 46ish minutes.  Not bad for a woods run.  Full disclosure, I walked the Goat Path today.  There was no way I was making it up that.  And another hill that was roughly the size of Mt. Everest.  Still a good opening run.  It helps that I was doing 3 - 5 miles in the woods at least once a week during track season.  I don't have any official results, but I'm willing to bet that I came in top 50 in the long run.  The 31st finisher was in at a 39 something pace, and I know there weren't that many more people in front of me.
Anyways, the point of this isn't the actual woods run, but the pace at which it was taken.  I'm not sure if this is supposed to be how it works, but my 80 degree woods run pace for the first three miles was the same as my regular day road running pace of roughly 8:30.  Is that normal?  Isn't a trail pace supposed to be slower due to hills and terrain? Or are they supposed to be around the same general time?  Basically what I'm wondering is, should I be running faster on the road than I am on the trails? If so, I need to give myself a real push I guess.
Well, that's about it for now.  No woods run pictures yet, but I have a ton of other randoms that you can enjoy.  Non-running related, but still lovely to look at, I assume.

Love the summer flavors. And the originals too. Ok, I love them all.

Hair looked good, deserved a selfie!

4 minutes 31 seconds

The time it took our 4 x 400 time to run the final relay in the 2016 Spring track NEC meet yesterday.  And just like that, the season ends.  Did we have a stellar record this year? Certainly not.  But we managed to improve the final times of every girl on the team who consistently showed up to practice and worked hard.  As far as I'm concerned, this track season was a great one, even if we didn't win most of our match-ups.  I have girls who could barely run a 400 who are now running 2 miles, which says a lot for the girls and for us as a team.
It is a bit strange to have all this free time looming after school now.  My afternoons have been filled with coaching and homework help since October, and suddenly it's the end of May and another school year is coming to an end.  Sure, we still have 6 weeks of school left, but the end of the year never seems as long as that.  Now that I've got some spare time to do my own running again, I should be back at this too.  I know it's kind of been neglected for the past month-ish, but I'll try to be better at it again.  Soon enough I'll have to start training for Disney anyways, and we all know how much I need to share my training with everyone.
This was meant to be a short catch-up post, so I'll leave it here for now, and hopefully you'll be hearing from me again soon!

Here's a picture from the Sox game today, nothing at all to do with this post, but a picture nonetheless.
